EVENT DESCRIPTION:
The Better World Talk and Concert is a FREE event that combines community building, inspirational talks, and uplifting music to inspire attendees to contribute to the betterment of the world!
Hosted by the Shadi group and MC'd by Dr. Beth Falanga, featuring a talk by Mr. Ted Lucas and musical performances by Armaghan & Arghavan Fakremmoghaddam and Baha'i-inspired rappers, Colby Jeffers, Peyt Spencer Dewar, and Karim Rushdy.
TED LUCAS BIO:
Ted Lucas is a Baha’i who lives in Issaquah. Ted is the Chief Procurement and Contracts Officer for Sound Transit., our regional transit system. He’s been in government service, both as an attorney and a procurement executive, for many years, including 15 years at the Panama Canal, followed by ten years for Miami-Dade County in Florida, before joining Sound Transit in 2012.
Ted has worked with other Issaquah Baha’i’s to support the City of Issaquah’s recently formed Equity Board, and to help sponsor Community Building Socials. He graduated from the University of Washington with both a bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Juris Doctor degree. Ted is married, and is the blessed father of six children and three step-children.
COLBY JEFFERS BIO:
Colby Jeffers is a Baha'i-inspired rapper from Phoenix, Arizona. His mission in music is to uplift, educate, and inspire others to contribute to the betterment of the world. Colby’s discography includes an impressive collection of 7 albums, all channeling his powerful messages of oneness, unity, justice, love, spirituality, and service to humanity. He is also a husband and father of 3 children. In 2020, his dedication to both art and community service was recognized with the prestigious Martin Luther King “Living The Dream” award by the City of Phoenix.
PEYT SPENCER DEWAR BIO:
Peyt Spencer Dewar is a Baha'i-inspired rapper living in Bellevue, Washington. In addition to his passion for writing rhymes, he can play the piano and produce his own beats. With thoughtful insight into the fundamentals of hip-hop and a flow that wastes no bars, he can string together a meaningful metaphor or playful pun with ease. He is also happily married and the founder of Lyrist, a web and mobile app for songwriters.
KARIM RUSHDY BIO:
Karim Rushdy is a Baha'i-inspired rapper from Stratford, Ontario, Canada. He draws the inspiration for his rap songs from his life experiences and from the Holy Writings of the Baha'i Faith. Karim is also a husband and father of 3 children. He also is the founder of The Rap Camp, a musical educational experience that aims to help participants realize their own inherent nobility and build confidence in themselves through the powerful medium of rap.
