About this event

Beetles, butterflies, ants … oh my! The final concert of the season takes its inspiration from the largest and most diverse collection of animals on the planet: insects. Not a group to be forgotten, spiders will also be thrown in for good measure!

Following the success of Chocolats symphoniques in 2024, New Texas Sinfonia closes out the season with one of Canadian composer Maxime Goulet’s newest compositions entitled The Carnival of the Insects. With a nod to Camille Saint-Saëns’ The Carnival of the Animals, Goulet has crafted sixteen vignettes prepared with care and imagination, each one focusing on a different insect. Through the diverse timbres of the orchestral instruments, he aims to display each creature’s unique character in a musical display sure to delight the audience.

We remain in the garden a while longer to experience The Spider’s Feast by Albert Roussel. Written in 1912 as a ballet-pantomime, this evocative and impressionistic work is characteristic of French theatre music of the early twentieth century. It was lauded in 1925 as being of "inventive counterpoints, bounding scherzos, gay and uneven rhythms, and personal instrumentation, both caressing and vigorous.” You will be all abuzz about this season finale!
