About this event

Choro das 3 wraps up its epic 18-month tour of the USA where it began - in a Woods Hole living room - on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 7:30 PM. Corina (flute), Lia (7-string guitar) and Elisa (mandolin, clarinet, piano, and everything else) invite you to celebrate their triumphant conquest of America. They return to their home in Brazil in late December.

Ticket holders will be informed of the concert's Woods Hole location, and other important information, by email about 24h before the show.

I first met these sisters of choro over twelve years ago, at a mandolin festival in France. I was so impressed that invited them to the USA the next year. In turn, their eyes opened to the potential if America, and they returned every year after that, touring the USA from Vineyard Sound to Puget Sound, and from Maine to Texas, making friends everywhere. Each year, they'd begin their tour in Woods Hole, and end their tour in Woods Hole. Then the pandemic hit hard, interrupting their annual touring cycle . . . and taking the life of Eduardo, the sisters' father. But Eduardo raised three determined women. In 2023 they came back, on extended tour, with a new motor home that they drove and maintained themselves, playing stronger music and bigger gigs, proving to themselves and the world that their music would live on.

Those who have seen Choro das 3's many Woods Hole concerts may wish to catch up with their YouTube Channel, https://www.youtube.com/@chorodas3 where they perform live every Thursday at 7PM, Eastern Standard Time, and where they post frequent video blogs of their US tour.

Those of you who don't know Choro das 3, well, lemme tell you, they're among the finest musicians in the world. Their mission is to keep the Brazilian music called Choro alive. Choro is the home-grown Brazilian precursor of Bossa Nova, Samba and Brazilian jazz, much like "the blues" inspired rock and roll and American jazz. It grew up at the same time as Bluegrass and New Orleans jazz, from many of the same influences. If you like that stuff, you'll love choro too!

The great American mandolin player, Mike Marshall, who did more than any other American to bring choro to the USA, says that Choro das 3 plays “. . . some of the most inspired and inspiring music . . . the highest level of musicianship and presentation . . . the highest quality of Brazilian Choro music that can be heard any place today.” I've seen these three sisters move audiences on three continents.
