About this event

The Sun's Neighborhood: When you look at the stars, can you tell which ones are closer and which are farther away? Knowing the Sun's place in space can help you see the night sky in 3D. Let's explore the kinds of strange objects we find in "The Sun's Neighborhood."  After this one-hour presentation in the auditorium, we will have telescopes set up outdoors for views of Saturn, star clusters, and perhaps a comet. Dress warmly. This program is geared towards those 16 years and older. Meet inside the Education Center.

This program will be led by Jim Hahn. Jim is a lifelong amateur astronomer and science enthusiast. He got his first telescope and learned the constellations at the age of 8, built his own telescope at 15, and has been an informal astronomy educator for several years, giving presentations at local nature centers and schools. Jim is an active member of the Northern Cross Science Foundation, a local astronomy club focused on public outreach, and stays current by reading books and periodicals on the subject, both in print and online.
