About this event

The Kay Lewis Trio, featuring the vocals of Kay Lewis, with Kerry Lewis on bass and Brennen Ernst on piano, plays a concert in a Woods Hole living room on Tuesday, June 10 at 7:30. Ticket holders will learn the location of the concert - and other important information - by email about 24h before the show.

The world has not discovered Kay Lewis yet. There's not much on the Internet. A New Orleans background. Grew up in a musical family. Did the (prestigious) NYU jazz program. But I heard her sing at Mona's on a hot Tuesday night, and WOW. In this video she sings, "I Found a New Baby" at Mona's - a typically amazing Mona's jam session - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13YHdZKIREM . . . This video captures the spirit of Mona's in 7.4 minutes - and shows what Kay Lewis can do! You'll recognize several other musicians who have been to Woods Hole. You might even recognize a small-time concert promoter from Cape Cod on the far right of the window.

Then I had the good fortune to catch a whole set of Kay Lewis at Foxtail in New York. I couldn't help but think that Ella had it all when she was 22, but nobody knew she'd be famous. And then I saw her do a set at Gotham Jazz Fest with her brother Kerry on bass and Jesse Gelber on piano. I was hooked.

Kay's band included Kerry Lewis, her brother, who has also become a Mona's house band regular over the last couple of years, and Brennen Ernst on piano, some kind of genius/protégé on several instruments, who has been to Woods Hole a couple of times in recent years.
