The Kittel & Co Quartet, with Jeremy Kittel (violin), Josh Pinkham (mandolin), Quinn Bachand (guitar), and Jacob Warren (bass), will play a concert of bluegrass-based jazz, jazz-flavored classical music, string band powered rock, and improvisational folk music in Woods Hole on Tuesday, July 28, at 7:30 PM. Doors open 7:00.

Ticket holders will be informed of the concert's Woods Hole location and other important information, about 24h before the show.

A limited number of half-priced young people's tickets (25 and under) are available.

This is a string band that plays popular music with the mouth-watering finesse of a classical string quartet. Each player is a master of their craft. Together they're perfect . . . precise arrangements, with deep, rich melodies alternating with daring, high-wire, edge-of-chair improvisation. Soooooo good.

Jeremy Kittel’s playing ranges from Irish & Scottish fiddling to jazz, bluegrass and classical music. He can blaze through a Scottish reel with the same intensity and focus as a Bach violin partita . Jeremy was the very first winner of the Daniel Pearl Violin, the award set up in memory of the music-loving Wall Street Journal reporter murdered by jihadis in 2002. Jeremy was a member of the Turtle Island String Quartet (2007-2012), which rendered bebop, funk, rock and other genres in string quartet style. He's played with so many of my heroes it's hard to choose . . . but lemme try . . . Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile, Jon Batiste, Esperanza Spalding, Yo-Yo Ma, Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn . . . you get the picture.

Josh Pinkham came up in a musical family. At age 12, David "Dawg" Grisman heard Josh’s mando noodling at a festival and invited him on stage. Josh never looked back. Mandolin Magazine named him, “the future of the mandolin.” Boy can sing too!

Quinn Bachand is dubbed “the young lion” of Celtic guitar. He’s won every award north of the 49th Parallel, and several south of it too, including a 4-year full-ride at Berklee. His first solo record, "Brishen," is a surprising, unlikely synthesis of jazz, Gypsy jazz, traditional folk and self-written explorations. He played in Woods Hole with Irish fiddler Haley Richardson in 2019, and I happened to catch him with his Django-style quartet in Belgium some years before that. Just . . . wow.

I don't know bassist Jacob Warren, but Jeremy says he's "amazing," and that's good enough for me. Oh, by the way, he won first prize in the 2023 International Society of Bassists soloist competition.
