The Red Jacket Jamboree Old Time Radio Show at the Calumet Theatre
About this event
Recorded for radio in front of a live audience!
The Red Jacket Jamboree is an old-time radio variety show, sharing songs, stories and history of the copper country and beyond. Hosted by Lena Dorey and Martin Achatz, two-time Poet Laureate of the Upper Peninsula, the show features the acclaimed Copper Cats, a 4 piece jazz band fronted by Jerry Younce on guitar and pianist Bill Carrothers.
Joining the Copper Cats will be guest vocalist and musician Jana Nyberg. Nyberg is a vocalist, flautist and band director from Minneapolis, MN. She appeared on Season 10 of American Idol, and has released four full-length albums to date.
Known for her expressive and soulful approach, she effortlessly shifts between genres. A sought-after performer and recording artist, Nyberg has collaborated with Gigamesh, The Adam Meckler Orchestra, Jason Peterson DeLaire (Michael Bolton), Unus, Rass Kwame and others. On stage, she brings a vibrancy and passion that is infectious and ignites her audiences. Nyberg's newest project, The Jana Nyberg 5, released their freshman effort, "Set On You," in August of 2017. The JN5 pushes small ensemble vocal jazz to the modern edge with exciting interpretations of well-loved standards and obscure gems alike. The Current named Nyberg one of "Ten Women To Know On The Twin Cities Jazz Scene" 2018.
