Howard Levy & Chris Siebold in a Woods Hole living room
About this event
Sweet Megg and her combo will play a concert of Nashville-flavored old time jazz on April 21 at 7:30 PM in a Woods Hole living room. Ticket holders will be informed of the concert location and other important information about 24h before the show.
I first heard Sweet Megg sing maybe a decade ago. She was one of the creative hot jazz vocalists in the orbit around Mona's. Then she did a stint with Post-Modern Jukebox. And then moved to Nashville to take a decidedly country turn. We're lucky she's able to swing through Woods Hole on her current whirlwind tour.
Megg's Web site says, "Megg’s music weaves together many threads of the American story—her Irish heritage, early blues training in high school, years immersed in the jazz world, explorations through the American South, inspiration from East Village poets, and the honky-tonk traditions of Nashville."
The Syncopated Times says, "If you haven’t previously heard of Sweet Megg, then where have you been? The crossover singer-songwriter has built up a huge following blending old-time jazz and country music . . . Part Patsy Cline and part Annette Hanshaw, for me her voice ranks up there with contemporary chanteuses Gunhild Carling and Tamar Korn . . . a sound as indebted to New Orleans as it is to Nashville . . . "

Megg will be accompanied by Dylan Perillo on bass and Chris Gelb on percussion. Dylan recently came to Woods Hole with Gordon Webster (and returning with Gordon on April 13). Chris Gelb has played with Vince Giordano's Nighthawks and has recorded with several hot jazz revivalists like Melissa Carpenter, Jessica Simpson, J.D. McPherson and Margo Price.
