About this event

Mark Schatz and Bryan McDowell will play a concert of old-tyme and new tunes, including bluegrass favorites, folk tunes, swinging jazz, and a few they wrote themselves, on Monday, May 19, at 7:30 PM in a Woods Hole living room. Ticket holders can expect an email about 24h before the show, with the concert location and other important information.

Both Schatz and McDowell are multi-instrumentalists who cruise seamlessly across the spectrum of American musical styles. Western North Carolina native Bryan McDowell grew up learning from his banjo playing father, listening to Doc Watson, Charlie Parker and everyone else he could get his ears around. Then he moved to Nashville, getting work with Sierra Hull, John McEuen, and Molly Tuttle alongside players like Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas and Del McCoury. He's won multiple national guitar championships, and mandolin and fiddle contests too.

Mark Schatz has toured and recorded with a who’s who of the acoustic music world, beginning with the magnificent John Hartford, and including Bela Fleck, Nickel Creek, Tony Rice, and Tim O’Brien. He's a two-time IBMA Bass Player of the Year winner. Mark and Bryan worked together in The Claire Lynch Band from 2009 to 2014, and they’re excited to present a new and dynamic show that will certainly include Bryan's guitar and Mark's bass, but might also feature fiddles, banjos and mandolins, vocals from their 2021 duo record, "Grit and Polish," and quite possibly some hambone body percussion and clog dancing.

Bring your biggest ears for a night of surprises and American music.
