What is Stripe?
Founded in 2010, Stripe has grown to become one of the leading payment processors globally, serving businesses and nonprofits of all sizes. Stripe allows organizations to accept online payments for goods, services, event ticket sales, and donations worldwide. It provides a secure and seamless payment experience, supporting various payment methods—including major credit cards and mobile payment services—as well as international currencies for nonprofits that operate globally.
Stripe offers a wide range of features that cater to the diverse needs of nonprofit organizations, including the Stripe Reader M2, which allows organizations to take in-person credit card payments and donations.
Charities, foundations, educational institutions, and healthcare providers can all leverage Stripe’s tools to streamline fundraising efforts and improve the donor’s experience.
Does Stripe offer nonprofits discounts?

How do I apply for Stripe’s nonprofit discount fees?
To apply for Stripe’s nonprofit fee reductions, organizations must first ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria set forth by Stripe for nonprofits. Your charity can then submit an application through Stripe’s dashboard, providing relevant details about the organization, mission, and payment processing needs.
To do so, you email nonprofit@stripe.com with the following information:
- Your EIN or a letter from the IRS designating your 501(c)(3) status to prove your organization has nonprofit status
- Confirmation of the primary email address associated with your Stripe account
- Confirmation that greater than 80 percent of your payment volume will be tax-deductible donations
After the application is submitted, Stripe will review the information provided and notify your organization of its fee reduction status. Stripe may require additional documentation to verify the nonprofit status of the organization and validate eligibility for discounted rates.
