Make Venmo for Charity Work Better

As a nonprofit, your ability to do good work in support of your cause ultimately comes down to how easily you can raise funds. If that means using Venmo for charity donations, we’ve got you. Ticketstripe is the one-stop shop for nonprofit organizations that need a platform to manage events and collect Venmo donations.

You may already know that Venmo and its parent company, PayPal, offer a number of attractive features for charities, including lower transaction fees for approved nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status and the ability for supporters to donate funds in a variety of ways, including by debit or credit card or via PayPal or Venmo. However, like PayPal, Venmo lacks what nonprofits need for comprehensive fundraising efforts in terms of event and donor management.

With Ticketstripe, you get both event ticketing and fundraising capabilities in one user-friendly platform, including the option to use Venmo for charity donations, communicate with customers, and/or export your customer data easily. Here’s how it all works.

Ticketstripe Connects Easily with Venmo

When you sign up for a free Ticketstripe account, you can connect your nonprofit’s PayPal account to use as your payment processor. Enable Venmo as a payment option, and voila, your customers/donors will see the option to pay with their Venmo account at checkout. Your charity can accept Venmo payments for ticket sales, event registrations, and donations in just seconds. Enable Venmo for CharityConnecting your organization’s PayPal/Venmo account means Ticketstripe never touches your funds.  Unlike some other event management platforms that hold your funds until after the event, with Ticketstripe, funding is immediate, and you control the payout intervals. You can also create as many event and donation pages as you like with no subscription or monthly fees. That’s right: Ticketstripe is completely free for nonprofits to use; we only charge reduced, low fees to the purchaser for ticket sales and donations.

Pass on Venmo’s Fees

Ticketstripe automatically passes the standard PayPal fee of 2.99% plus $0.49 per transaction to the buyer. The fees are clearly explained and noted on the ticket sales and donation page before checkout, so there are no unwelcome surprises for the buyer/donor. If you’re set up with PayPal and Venmo as a qualified nonprofit (and have a Venmo Charity Profile), the payment processing fees are reduced. If desired, you may contact Ticketstripe to pass on your reduced Paypal/Venmo charity fees to the buyer versus the standard.

However, if your organization is not an approved PayPal charity, PayPal will deduct its standard fee for Venmo transactions of 3.49% plus $0.49. If you expect a large amount of donations via Venmo, you may opt to add an additional organizer or handling fee within your Ticketstripe dashboard that the buyer will pay to make up for the difference between PayPal’s standard rate of 2.99% and its Venmo rate of 3.49%.

Unlimited Ticket Types and Donation Options

Using Ticketstripe for event ticket sales means you can offer unlimited ticket types, such as early bird, general admission, VIP, and more. You can also bundle tickets for tables, sponsors, or multi-day packages that include a set number of tickets. Typically, that would mean you’d only get contact info for the buyer, but with Ticketstripe’s Ticket Bundles, the purchaser can easily share the additional tickets via email—and you’ll collect additional contact info once the tickets are claimed

The amount of funds you can raise significantly increases when you give a customer the option to donate while buying tickets to your event, whether you prefer to suggest fixed amounts or let the donor set their own. At checkout, the purchaser can then opt to pay with Venmo. And because Ticketstripe offers unlimited free event pages, you may even create a dedicated “Donation” page for donations only, that include flexible or set options, as well as donation tiers. Many organizers segment donations into “funds,” allowing donors to support a particular mission or cover a certain common expense. Maybe you are designing a virtual fundraiser using Ticketstripe to sell raffle tickets, or maybe you want to offer prize incentives for donations at certain levels…the Venmo fundraising options are limited only by your creativity.

Host Fundraising Competitions

Ticketstripe’s “Promoter” feature gives you the ability to create unique URLs to share with specific individuals or team captains as a means for them to fundraise for your organization. Because they each get their own dedicated fundraising page, they can each earn “credit” for the total funds they raise—an incentivized form of peer-to-peer fundraising in which they can compete against each other to be the largest fundraiser for a donation drive or event. The end result: Far greater support for your nonprofit’s endeavors.

Create a Donor Database from Venmo for Charity Donations

When you use Ticketstripe with Venmo for charity fundraising, attendee and donor contact information is centralized in one database. Our customizable order forms allow you to collect specific information, from basic age and gender demographic info to a donor’s event preferences or hobbies, and so on. After all, the more you learn about your donors, the more equipped you will be to tailor future fundraisers to them and their interests. Ticketstripe doesn’t own your customer data, nor do we use it for our own marketing purposes; instead, this data is yours to use as you see fit.

Customize Your Email Marketing Lists

Wouldn’t it be great to organize your attendee list easily? With Ticketstripe, you can consolidate all your ticket purchasers and donors — even those that pay you with cash — into one database, so you may email everyone all at once to share event information or other news.

What’s more, this list is exportable to an Excel doc, including any demographic information you’ve collected and their past purchases. From there, you can sort and select specific groups of people to target when sharing, say, sponsorship opportunities. You may even reach out only to folks who came as others’ guests on a ticket bundle with tailored information geared toward someone who may not know as much about the great work your organization does.

If you use Venmo fundraising by itself to collect money, that’s literally all you get—Venmo on its own can’t help you organize events, develop a donor database, or help you promote future fundraising efforts. That’s where Ticketstripe comes and Venmo for charity come in. Get in touch with our customer success team or schedule a Q&A to learn more!
